# Domain overview and Your lookups

> How to look up any domain's organic traffic, keywords and backlinks, and how saved lookups let you reopen reports without paying again.

## What Domain overview shows

**Domain overview** (SEO tools in the left menu) is a one-page report on any website — yours or a competitor's. It estimates how much organic search traffic the domain gets, which keywords bring it, which pages earn it and what its backlink profile looks like.

Use it to:

- Get a baseline for your own site before you start work.
- Size up a competitor you just discovered.
- Check a prospect before a sales call (agencies).

## Running a lookup

1. Open **Domain overview**.
2. Type the domain in the field, for example `northside-bakery.example`. Leave out `https://` and paths.
3. Check the location (the market whose search results are used).
4. Click **Run**. The price is on the button.

The report always belongs to the domain in the field. If you type a different domain than the one shown below, the old report disappears and the screen asks you to run the new one — you never see one site's numbers under another site's name.

## Reading the report

### Headline numbers

| Number | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Organic traffic | Estimated monthly visits from Google organic results in the chosen location |
| Keywords | How many keywords the domain ranks for in the top 100 |
| Top 3 / Top 10 | How many of those keywords are in the top 3 and top 10 |
| Backlinks / Ref. domains | Links pointing to the domain and the number of distinct sites they come from |
| DR | Domain Rating by Ahrefs, when available. If it is not available, the column says so |

Traffic is an **estimate** based on positions and search volume, not real visits. For your own site, connect Search Console to see real clicks ([Search Console and Google Analytics](/docs/search-console-ga4)).

### Charts and tables

- **Traffic and keywords over time** — monthly history. Point at the chart to see values for a month.
- **Organic keywords** — the keywords with position, volume, traffic share and the ranking URL.
- **Organic keywords by intent** — how traffic splits between informational, commercial, transactional and navigational searches.
- **Branded vs non-branded traffic** — how much traffic comes from searches for the brand name.
- **Organic pages by traffic** — which pages bring the most visits.
- **Top organic competitors** — sites that rank for many of the same keywords. Open [Competitors](/docs/competitors) for the full analysis.
- **Top countries** — where traffic comes from, when the data has a country split.

## Your lookups

When the domain field is empty, Domain overview shows **Your lookups** — a table of every domain you looked up:

- Domain with logo, location and language, date
- Organic traffic, Keywords, Backlinks, Ref. domains, DR (from stored data only)

What you can do:

- **Click a row** to open the stored report. This is **free** and makes no new request. The header says "from <date>".
- **Refresh · N credits** fetches fresh data for that domain.
- **Search** the list and **sort** by any column.
- **✕** removes one lookup; **Clear history** removes all.

### Fresh reports open for free

If you click **Run** on a domain you looked up in the last 7 days for the same location, Rankfinity opens the stored report instead of paying again. A "fresh" badge marks such rows. Use **Refresh** when you really need today's numbers.

## The same "Your lookups" elsewhere

The same table appears in other tools:

- **Keyword** — your past keyword lookups ([Keyword research](/docs/keyword-research)).
- **Site audit › Summary** — your past crawls with date, pages, health score and errors/warnings/notices. Clicking a crawl opens its summary.
- **Content Gap** and **Backlinks** show stored data only for the domain in the field.

Lookups are personal: each person sees their own history.

## Saved snapshots

You can save a report with **Save report** and give it a label (for example "Before redesign"). Saved reports appear in **Data › Saved** and in the **Data from** menu above the report. Each keeps the data exactly as it was. You can label or delete a snapshot from that menu.

## Tips

- Run your own domain once at the start and save it with a label. Months later you have a fair before/after comparison.
- When you look up a competitor, compare the **Organic pages by traffic** table with your own pages. Pages they have and you don't are content ideas; [Content gap](/docs/content-gap) does this at the keyword level.
- Traffic estimates for very small sites can be noisy. Look at keywords and positions as well.

## Common questions

**Why is traffic so different from my analytics?**
Domain overview estimates organic search traffic only, from positions and volumes. Your analytics counts all visits from all sources.

**Why did the report under the field disappear?**
You typed another domain. Reports never show under a different domain's name. Click **Run** or pick it from Your lookups.

**Is DR the same as the "Domain rank" on the dashboard?**
No. DR is Domain Rating by Ahrefs. Domain rank on the dashboard is a 0–100 score from our link index. They are labelled separately.

**Can I see traffic value in money?**
Yes, as **Ad value (est.)**, shown only to administrators. What it means, and why small sites see "Too little traffic to estimate": [Ad value (est.)](/docs/ad-value).

**Does a teammate see my lookups?**
No. Lookups are per person. Save a report if you want to keep something for the team.
