# AI assistant

> How to ask the AI assistant about your project, which answers are free, how skills work and how to keep chats organised.

## What the assistant does

The **AI Assistant** answers questions about your project in plain language, using your project's own data: rankings, map scans, AI visibility runs, the site audit, Search Console and Google Analytics, competitors and backlinks. It can also plan work, draft texts and, with your confirmation, start actions.

Open it in two ways:

- **AI Assistant** in the left menu — the full chat screen.
- The floating button with three stars — opens the chat from any screen. On the full chat screen the floating button hides.

Simple and Advanced are two views of the same product, and you can switch between them on any plan with the switch at the top of the screen. In **Simple** the assistant is the first screen, next to **Overview**, **Who’s ahead** and **What to do**. **Advanced** shows every tool in the menu.

## Picking the project

The assistant always talks about one project. The project picker sits next to the chat title; it is the same choice as the picker in the left menu. Switch it to ask about another project. A new chat starts for the selected project.

## Asking

Type in the box at the bottom (Shift+Enter for a new line) and send. Good questions are specific:

- "Which keywords dropped out of the top 10 since last week?"
- "Where on the map am I weakest for 'emergency plumber'?"
- "Which competitors do AI answers mention instead of me?"
- "What should I fix first on the site?"
- "Write a brief for a service page about boiler repair."

While the assistant works you see "Thinking…" and the steps it takes in plain words ("Reading map scans", "Reading the site audit"). When done, the steps fold into a line such as "Used 3 tools · 6s". Click it to see them again.

Answers are written as normal text. Sources appear as small chips you can click. When something was not measured, the answer says so in a short note instead of guessing.

The assistant replies in the language you write in.

## Free ready answers

Many common questions have **ready answers**: they are built directly from your data, without an AI model, and cost **nothing**. On an empty chat the start screen shows them grouped by topic and marked **Free**. Examples:

- Positions: which keywords moved, what is in the top 3, which are closest to the top 3, which fell out of the top 10, how many are on page one, which pages rank.
- Map: the last scan, your weakest areas.
- Competitors: who gained share, who leads.
- AI: how visible you are, visibility per platform, prompts where competitors are named and you are not, cited sites.
- Site audit: the main problems, what changed since the last crawl.
- Search Console: pages with clicks, impressions without clicks, keywords on page two.
- Backlinks, credits spent this month, your schedules.

Typing a question with the same meaning also gets the ready answer for free. "What can you do?", "hello" and "thanks" are free too.

Each ready answer has a title, the reason with the numbers, up to three actions with how to do them, and a link to the screen with the evidence. There is a daily limit on ready answers per person.

## Paid answers

Open questions that need reasoning are answered by an AI model and cost credits. The price is shown next to the send button before you send. If you send the same message twice by accident (double click), you pay once.

You can choose the answer depth where offered: quicker and cheaper, or more detailed. A message costs 26 credits at Quick, 76 at Detailed and 80 at Expert.

## Skills

Each open question is routed to one **skill** — a method for a type of task, such as an audit prioritiser, a map ("grid") doctor, a keyword hunter, a content brief writer, a competitor gap analyst, an AI visibility advisor, a Google Analytics and Search Console reader, a review reply writer, a schema markup helper, a WordPress fixer that prepares a request for Agent to WordPress, and others. While it works the chat shows "Using skill: …". You do not need to pick a skill; the assistant chooses from your question.

## Actions with confirmation

The assistant can propose actions such as running a rank check or a map scan. Anything that spends credits or changes data asks you first with the price. Nothing is charged without your click.

The assistant does not promise results such as "you will be first in a month". It explains what the data shows and what to do.

## Chats

- **New chat** starts a fresh conversation.
- **Chats** (the history panel; a drawer on phones) lists past conversations. Rename or delete them there. Click one to continue it.
- On an empty chat, **Suggested for this project** lists questions your project has data for, and **From the library** offers prompts and tasks. With no data yet, it suggests running a rank check, a site audit or an AI visibility run first.

## Who can use it

Owners and team members with permission can chat. View-only members and clients cannot start paid chats; the chat is hidden for them. Every plan has the assistant; the number of messages a day is in Compare plans.

## Common questions

**Does the assistant see other projects?**
Only the project selected in the picker, and only projects you have access to.

**Why did a question cost credits when a similar one was free?**
Ready answers cover specific questions. An open question that needs reasoning goes to the model. The price is shown before you send.

**Can it change my site?**
No. It can draft texts and briefs; you publish them. When you ask it to change something on a WordPress site, it answers with an **Open in Agent to WordPress** button that opens [Agent to WordPress](/docs/wordpress-agent) with the request already written — you press Send there, review each preview and Apply it yourself. Rankfinity changes your site only through tools you control, such as Agent to WordPress and the Content writer's **Publish to WordPress**.

**Can I ask it about a Site audit issue?**
Yes. **Ask the AI assistant** next to every Site audit issue, and **Explain with the AI assistant** on every Agent to WordPress change, open the assistant with the question already written. You press Send yourself.

**Is my data used to train models?**
Your project data is sent only to answer your question. See the Privacy Policy for details.

**Can I use the assistant from Claude or ChatGPT instead?**
Yes, through MCP. See [Connect Claude or ChatGPT](/docs/mcp).
